SGIM24 Highlights: Relational Coordination: A Framework for Improving Healthcare Systems

Special Symposia: Relational Coordination: A Framework for Improving Healthcare Systems
Course description
This is a recorded session from the SGIM 2024 Annual Meeting in Boston.

The quality of relationships in a work system affects the quality of communication, alignment, systems awareness, coordination, and, ultimately, performance. Relational Coordination (RC) is an empirically validated framework for assessing and improving the relational core that determines the success of every work process. Relational Coordination makes relationships and interdependencies visible and manageable and guides the building of shared goals, shared knowledge, and mutual respect supported by structures to achieve better outcomes. After a brief review of Relational Coordination research and implementation principles, we will help you explore potential strategies and tools for applying this framework in your organization.

Learning Objectives
  • Define Relational Coordination framework
  • Discuss how relational coordination impacts relationships and organizational work process or systems.
  • Identify potential strategies and tools to apply this framework
